A harmonious relationship between man and nature called for the careful selection of building sites with as little impact as possible on the surrounding vegetation. By incorporating regional flowers and exotic plants with the existing growth, Makanda has a natural palate of color that takes shape on a lush background.

Selection of flora was based on the ability to attract a mix of butterflies, birds, monkeys, sloths and other local fauna, making a stay here a heightened jungle experience.

All of the Villas are contoured into the jungle and descending mountain terrain with the abruptly inclining hillsides allowing dramatic ocean views from all locations.

Makanda's open air design enhances the views while taking advantage of the Pacific breezes. The first structure at Makanda by the Sea was the Large Villa, originally designed as a home. This villa now hosts three attractive studios, 2, 3 and 4, on the lower level and the larger "Villa 1" on the upper level. The design allows our guests to enjoy a private room or combine them through a series of Japanese gardens and patio walkways for large groups.

The other Villas, 5 and 6, are independently set in the forests along the mountain side. Expansive bi-fold doors open onto large balconies, making nature part of the home. From each private balcony to the king size beds, the closeness of the jungle is present. The full kitchens to the bathrooms, forest and ocean views keep your eyes fixed on the windows. Large Villas with sixteen foot vaulted ceilings, a large sofa, hand-crafted tiles and exotic hardwoods add just the right touch to make your stay in the jungle one of elegance. While also boasting an ocean view, Villa 7 is unique in that it is a bedroom suite built next to the pool and is really set into the heart of the jungle.

Makanda, the name once said to mean essence or nectar in ancient Sanscrit, is a paradise found.

Our Local Chefs creates exciting dishes bringing new flavor to Manuel Antonio.

We use only the finest seafood, meats, poultry and vegetables. Most items are prepared on the grill and all dishes are accented with fresh herbs and spices from La Botanica.

Enjoy the chef's daily special under a beautiful sunset followed by dessert and a cup of locally fresh roasted coffee from Café Milagro or tropical drinks in the Jacuzzi
